I absolutely love the CBS Sunday Morning Show. This past Sunday they featured a segment entitled, "Is Sitting the New Smoking?" and it really grabbed my attention. Much like outdoor living furniture encouraging us to enjoy the beauty of nature, take in the fresh air and not to mention the light benefits to our health; I saw the immediate potential value in this treadmill desk concept.
Less than a year ago I was sitting at a stop light and was rear-ended by a vehicle going at a high rate of speed and sustained a back injury. As a result of this accident I currently have recurring pain. Prior to the injury my lifestyle was rather sedentary for certain extended periods of time depending on the project at hand. This was not a problem prior to the accident or I didn't think it was a problem. Now it is definitely a problem and in hindsight these extended sedentary periods were probably growing other less obvious slow to emerge health issues as well. Is your lifestyle too sedentary? Ever tried a treadmill desk? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
The concept of combining the two functions of desk work and exercise and it actually potentially increasing productivity while saving time is very intriguing indeed. I am putting this on my wish list for sure. I hope companies as they are looking to create cutting edge environments that generate creativity and hack culture by affecting positive change consider this option for their employees.
